Kranji Secondary was established in 1995 and was temporarily housed for that year in Chestnut Drive Secondary with a Secondary One cohort. The school moved to its present campus a year later, in 1996. From the very beginning, the school was a mixed school with both sexes and included students from all three streams – Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical. While the name Kranji is often associated with the part of Woodlands in the north of Singapore, its namesake, Kranji Secondary is located away from Woodlands and is nestled in North 5, Choa Chu Kang St 51.
