Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) Ranking and Review 2017 Singapore.
Fairfield was started by Miss Sophia Blackmore with a class of 8 Nonya girls in 1888. Only a handful of schools in Singapore have a longer history than Fairfield. In 1912, when Miss Mary Olson was the Principal, the school expanded, moving to Neil Road and was named Fairfield Girls’ School, in honour of a generous donor, Mr Fairfield.

Fairfield’s Teaching and Learning Framework
Fairfield’s Teaching and Learning framework is based on the MOE PETALs framework which aims to promote engaged learning through five dimensions: Pedagogy, Experience of Learning, Tone of Environment, Assessment and Learning Content. We have customised PETALs to better reflect a Fairfield flavour and meet the needs of our profile of students. At the centre of our framework are quality teacher-student relationships that motivate students to learn. We believe that every teacher is an influential leader who designs learner-centred curriculum, demonstrates skilful teaching and uses effective assessment for learning to bring about engaged learning from every student. Fairfield teachers create a positive learning culture and teach every student with love.
Community Problem-Solving Project
- One of the key highlights for Secondary Three students is the Community Problem Solving Project. For a duration of two terms, students work in groups of four to five to create a solution for an authentic problem faced by the Fairfield community and a community that they have identified beyond Fairfield. This project aims to hone the students’ critical and inventive thinking and communication abilities, collaborative and information skills, which are key competencies required in the 21st Century.
- Applying the rigour of divergent and convergent thinking in their teams, students work on a series of comparative evaluation to arrive at the most significant problem and most effective solution, before presenting their final research findings and detailed analysis to their peers and teachers.
